Pronat encourages young women to develop their intelligence and complete their education, which they missed due to unwanted pregnancies and the extreme poverty of their families. We teach them employable skills and make them aware of women´s rights, thereby raising their self-esteem and enabling them to build their own future.
Every year 40 students study Computing and English for ten months and graduate after passing the exams. The most advanced students are granted scholarships for further studies.

A class in Sewing is arranged for ten women once a year. The students sew school uniforms for sale, design and make bags, clothes and other items of recycled material. Besides Sewing, a course in Cosmetology was arranged in 2004.
Our students participate in monthly seminars and workshops on family planning, marital violence, incest, drugs and venereal diseases. They learn about healthy nutrition and the traditional use of medicinal plants in health care.
The graduates of PRONAT are encouraged to pursue further studies and learn a trade. They are assisted in finding jobs and invited to do voluntary work at the project.
The vision of PRONAT is to provide the women who have completed the course in Sewing with sewing machines, which they can buy by installments working at home. Thus they will earn their living and their children can attend school instead of working in the street.
The head of the project and all the employees on the payroll are Nicaraguan. The project is in charge of Janin Mejia Raudez. Computing is taught by Martha Lorena Pérez. Lazaro Espinoza is responsible for security.
English is taught by foreign and local volunteers. Some of our former students assist at the project and three of them are members of the board of the association APIMUNIC.

We are extremely appreciative for any donations you can send our way. With your contribution we can continue empowering women and encouraging them to acquire employable skills and become more independent and self-supporting. We are looking for a building site in Granada and would like to have a house built in a few years time, because the house we rent is too small for our activities. Your contribution will help us realize these plans and develop the project further.
